Hi friends

As you know, my KKHV project was born out of lockdown boredom in 2021, and designed as a present for my sister’s birthday last November.

I had such a positive response beyond any expectations. It was quite surreal.

The feedback I had from those within the radio industry, friends and new friends from all over the world, has been phenomenal. I put a lot of time and energy into getting the small details right, which in itself was a load of fun, and I am thrilled to know that my efforts also resonated with BTTF fans.

I decided to bring to life the small town radio station that observed a sequence of bizarre and fascinating events, just like the residents did. It’s about the magic of radio, to hear what it could have been like to be a KKHV listener, and less so about the movie we all know and love.

So, I am excited to share that I have decided to do it again in 2022.

You will be able to listen a little longer in 2022.

All times California (PST/PDT).

Last year, we simply “tuned in” to KKHV of 1955. I fabricated an elaborate way of making this possible (by listening to 66 year old radio signals from space, thanks to the help of a familiar scientist), ha!

This year, it’s so much easier. We simply time travel. 😆

We will ride the observable timelines of the first movie, which also means we accept the theory that only when you travel backward in time, you generate a new observable timeline but not if you travel forward. If “1955A” is the original 1955, we will actually travel back to “1955B”.

I also have a few surprises. Firstly by announcing a broadcast timeline.

As we are following the observable timelines, it means we start listening to KKHV in “1985A”, then travel back to “1955B” and then return to “1985B”.

This of course means, we get to experience THREE versions of KKHV!

Here’s how the observable timelines sync with our broadcast timeline:

We will start at 1985A, head to 1955B, then return to 1985B.

The events of “1955B” had a positive ripple effect on Timeline “B”.
Our
broadcast timeline will allow us to observe a format flip of KKHV from an A/C we started with in 1985A and when we return, it actually became a CHR by 1985B.

In summary, this is the
broadcast timeline, starting from October 26 2022:

1985A: Hill Valley is somewhat run-down. KKHV became an adult contemporary format.

1955 (A and B): Hill Valley was in its heyday, and KKHV was an up-tempo pop format.

1985B: This timeline sees KKHV remain up-tempo as a contemporary hit radio format.

In 2021 I had a lot of positive feedback about the 1955 KKHV, so when I was asked if I was going to do it again, or try a 1985 version (or even 2015) I hadn’t even given it a thought, and didn’t have an answer. I hadn’t even thought I would even do 1955 again. By mid 2022 I decided to not only do 1955 again but go ahead with 1985.

I hope to reward radio fans, who will be observing the difference between KKHV of 1985A and 1985B. I also have a few surprises for all three versions. For fans of the movies, you’ll also notice subtle changes have been included, such as location names, and some business names.

Q: What about KKHV in the other 1985 where Biff had the casino?

A: I knew someone would ask me this. Short answer, no.

Out of interest, KKHV could exist here but I’d figure it would either be run by BiffCo as a racing channel to support Biff's gambling empire, or it went off the air a few years earlier, considering Strickland in this timeline mentioned Hill Valley High was burned down in 1979. This would likely have stifled the future workforce and even crippled the local economy, as we briefly observed in this timeline. Either way, this timeline is soon erased when Doc and Marty travel back and burn the Almanac.

Q: Is there a KKHV Twitter for 1985?

A: Yes. The handle is @kkhvfm - both accounts will be tweeting.

Q: How can I listen?

A: Same as last year. Use these links to promote or listen;
